Public Display of the Preferred Option

An online public display event took place between the 9th November and the 7th December 2021 to inform the public and stakeholders of the Preferred Option identified for the scheme to be brought forward for further development and assessment.

The Public Display of the Preferred Option is now complete and the project team would sincerely like to thank all those who contributed and participated in meetings (online or by phone) with the project team. The knowledge gained from the engagement will be considered by the project team as part of the next stages of the development of the scheme.

All information presented at the Public Display is available to view or download in the Downloads section of this website.

The project team includes a Project Liaison Officer who is available to meet members of the public, including landowners and affected parties, to discuss and record their issues of interest throughout the duration of the project. The public may submit their views, comments and queries to the project team. This engagement can be by email, by phone, by post or in person (COVID-19 restrictions allowing). Please see the contact details on the Contact Us  page.

Public Consultation

The first non-statutory public consultation for the N21 Abbeyfeale Road Scheme took place between the 1st February and the 5th March 2021.

The purpose of this consultation was to inform the public of the shortlisted route corridor options for the project. Public consultation forms an important part of advancing the design process towards the development of transport options and allows the involvement of the public in identifying key constraints.

Due to COVID-19, Limerick City and County Council was unable to hold a public consultation event in-person within the study area. Instead, an online public consultation platform was developed here on the project website.
This online public consultation experience provided a virtual consultation room that allowed the public and other stakeholders to view maps, project information and express their opinion in a safe and accessible environment. It contained all the information that would normally be displayed at a live event.

The public consultation period was initially intended to run for a four week period until the 26th February. Due to the high level of public engagement the consultation was extended and ran for five weeks until 5th March 2021.
There was a high level of visitor activity to the virtual room and the interactive maps throughout the public consultation period. It was understood that online information cannot be accessed by everyone, and to this end members of the public could request a call back from a member of the project team by phone or using digital technologies. The call-back period opened on the 1st February 2021, for two weeks initially, and was extended by an additional two weeks to 26th February 2021, due to the high level of demand for consultations.

Submissions and feedback forms were received by post and by email and through the online Feedback Form feature provided in the virtual room.

A copy of all of the consultation material presented at Public Consultation No. 1 is available to download in PDF format from the Downloads Page of the website.

The first Public Consultation is now closed but the project team are still available to discuss any queries you may have. The project team can be contacted by phone on 061 951000 or email abbeyfeale@midwestroads.ie.
We would like to thank all those who sent submissions and/or participated in the process. All information received will be taken into consideration in the process of arriving at a preferred route.
